5. The
River Market District:
The
east end of downtown Little Rock was once a collection of unused
warehouses and forgotten businesses. But today, the Little Rock side of
the Arkansas River is brimming with dining and drinking establishments,
eclectic shops and outdoor entertainment options during much of the
year. Restaurants in the district range from the upscale to the more
casual, and the Market itself offers several ethnic food and sandwich
outlets.
The night life is thriving in the River Market district. An
English-style pub, a draught beer emporium and two warehouse-type bars
all remain open until the wee hours of the night. Two dueling piano bars
provide lively entertainment as well. Every Tuesday and Saturday, from
April through October, area farmers offer fresh produce and area artists
display their wares at the River Market.
The River Market overlooks the Arkansas River, and is just a stone's
throw from Verizon Arena, North Little Rock's primary public arena.
There are plans to connect the two riversides by street car, in the form
of the River Rail Street Car Project, which is only a short walk to the
Jacimore Building.
