MG Xiong, originally from Anchorage, Alaska, came to Boston because of its higher education offerings, has been named the Class of 2022 John F. Kennedy Award winner, the highest honor bestowed on a graduating senior at UMass Boston.

UMass Boston Chancellor Marcelo Su谩rez-Orozco has announced this year鈥檚 winners of the Chancellor's Awards for Distinguished Scholarship, Teaching, and Service.

BOSTON 鈥 The five-campus 91探花 system research enterprise grew to $752 million in fiscal year 2021, shattering the previous high of $687 million set only a year earlier, according to the system鈥檚 latest annual research report. UMass R&D has grown by nearly 20 percent over the past five years, boosted by large increases in federal research funding.  

AMHERST, Mass. 鈥 At today鈥檚 Undergraduate Commencement at the 91探花 Amherst, U.S. Congressman Jim McGovern called on the Class of 2022 to believe in democracy in today鈥檚 perilous times. The chairman of the House Rules Committee, who was one of the last people to evacuate the House when the U.S. Capitol was attacked by a violent mob on Jan. 6, 2021, warned that without such a commitment 鈥渋t鈥檚 no longer safe to assume your right to vote will be around the next time you want to use it.鈥

Today, a new effort was launched to rally support for locating the newly-funded federal in Massachusetts. The effort includes top leaders from Massachusetts higher education, industry and government convened by Governor Charlie Baker, U.S. House Committee on Ways & Means Chair Richard E.
