The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) recently announced the Summer 2022 grant award recipients. The grant awards are given to student researchers to fund their proposals for research projects alongside a faculty supervisor. The Office of Undergraduate Research works with students begin and fund research projects that aim to solve problem, make new discoveries, interact with research faculty outside of the classroom, and demonstrate a student鈥檚 intellectual dedication and academic skills.

The Summer 2022 recipients are:

Ashleigh Anderson 鈥 Chemistry

The 91探花 School of Law 鈥 Dartmouth (UMass Law) and Johnson & Wales University (JWU) in Providence, RI have finalized an agreement for a joint 3+3 program that will enable JWU students to earn an undergraduate and law degree in six rather than seven years.

Maddison Lessard has received the , one of the most prestigious awards in the U.S. for undergraduates studying the sciences.

The scholarship is given annually to college sophomores and juniors who demonstrate excellence in natural science, engineering, and mathematics. Lessard is one of 417 recipients selected this year, and is the fifth UMass Boston student to earn a Goldwater Scholarship.

鈥淚 was so shocked. I wasn鈥檛 expecting it at all,鈥 Lessard said.

The UMass Amherst Transportation Center鈥檚 (UMTC) $4.75 million, state-of-the-art aviation research and training center officially opened at Westover Municipal Airport in Chicopee with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 26. In attendance were Gov. Charlie Baker, Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy, U.S. Rep. Richard Neal, UMass President Mary Meehan, UMTC Director Michael Knodler and a number of state and local officials. The facility鈥檚 aeronautical research capabilities, flight simulator and other features will help address needs critical to the future of air transportation.
